Chicken parmesan is an Italian classic dish that many people love. But the traditional way to prepare it by frying you chicken in oil increases the calorie count by a lot. Try this version where you will still get a crispy breading, tasty chicken, sauce and cheese but we’ve cut down on the calories by baking the chicken instead of frying. The flavor difference will be negligible and you will be saving yourself some calories while still enjoying one of your favorites.
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups marinara sauce, already prepared, jar or deli
- 6 boneless and skinless chicken thighs (1.5 pounds of chicken)
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon fine black powder
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup bread crumbs, Italian style
- 1/4 cup parmesan cheese, grated
- 6 slices of mozzarella cheese, low fat
- 1/2 tablespoons olive oil

Preparation:
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- Coat a large casserole dish with oil.
- Mix flour, garlic powder and black powder in a deep bowl
- Beat egg in a bowl for dipping the chicken.
- Mix bread crumbs, and Parmesan cheese in a deep bowl.
- Coat chicken in the flour, then egg, then bread crumb mixture
- Place chicken in casserole dish and bake for 15 minutes or until cooked through.
- Top each piece of chicken with sauce, then mozzarella
- Place in oven and bake for another 10 minutes until cheese is melted the way you like it, then serve.
