Air fryers. You’ve heard of them and with a slick marketing campaign of calling them a “Fryer” it gets people to think that they will create food with the same flavor as frying them. You can read my article no the truth about air fryers if you want the low down on what they really are, but aside from that, when compared with an oven, can they produce a better baked fish filet? Let’s find out.
Ingredients:
- 5 Tilapia Fish Filets
- Slap Ya Mama seasoning salt

Preparation:
Oven
- Preheat the oven to 425° F
- Place the frozen fries on a rack over a cookie sheet leaving space between the French fries
- Cook in the oven for about 10 minutes or until the fish is cooked through.
- Place them into a plate and serve.
Air Fryer
- Preheat the air fryer
- Once ready, place the fish filet in the basket and push the fish button (350° F for 8 minutes.)
- When the air fryer finishes and the fish looked cooked, take them out and place them into a plate.
Results
The air fryer came out dryer than expected, probably was cooked too long. If the air fried fish was taken out earlier, then it’s likely there would not have been much of a difference between the two fish. But as it was, using the preset fish cooking button, the air fryer caused the fish to dry out. So if you want to use an air fryer instead of the oven, make sure to monitor how well the fish is being cooked and take it out at the appropriate doneness. Otherwise, there was no real difference between the cooking methods except that the fish can be cooked faster in an air fryer. So if you have an air fryer already, you can use it to bake fish, but if you don’t have one, you do not need to get an air fryer just to cook your fish faster.
