Does an Air Fryer Improve the Quality of Frozen Fries when Compared to an Electric Oven?

Air fryers. You’ve heard of them and with a slick marketing campaign of calling them a “Fryer” it gets people to think that they will create food with the same flavor as frying them. You can read my article no the truth about air fryers if you want the low down on what they really are, but aside from that, when compared with an oven, can they produce a better French fry from a bag of frozen fries? Let’s find out.

Ingredients:

  • 1 bag frozen fries
  • Salt

Preparation:

Oven
  1. Preheat the oven to 425° F
  2. Place the frozen fries on a rack over a cookie sheet leaving space between the French fries
  3. Cook in the oven for about 30 minutes or until the fries are golden brown.
  4. Place the fries in a bowl and salt to taste.
Air Fryer
  1. Preheat the air fryer
  2. Once ready, dump the frozen fries in the basket and push the French fry button (380° F for 25 minutes.)
  3. Half way through the cooking process take the basket out and shake or stir the fries.
  4. When the air fryer finishes and the fries look golden brown, take them out and dump them into a bowl. Salt to taste.

Results

In a unanimous decision, everyone decided that the air fryer French fries were crispier and therefore had a better overall texture. So if you’re cooking a relatively small amount of fries and want to use an oven like appliance, the air fryer is a nice go to appliance.
