Preparation:
- Cover the steak in salt, pepper and garlic powder.
- Wrap foil around the bone to keep it from getting too burn (optional)
- Place them into a 250°F oven for 45 minutes (this direction form Omaha wasn’t good enough so I turned up the heat to 325°F and cooked them for another 45 minutes until the meat thermometer reads about 125°F)
- Finish off the steaks by searing the outsides on a BBQ, under the broiler or in a skillet.
The Verdict
While the Omaha tomahawk had more of a smoky flavor from their preparation style at Omaha, the flavor of the 2 steaks is comparable. Happy Healthy Daughter preferred the flavor of the Omaha tomahawk while Happy Healthy Son preferred the flavor of the grocery store tomahawk. Once the prices of each were revealed, both of them thought the extra flavoring in the Omaha tomahawk was not worth 4 times the price.
