Looking for a fast way to grate a lot of cheese cause you’re making a pizza, lasagna, or casserole that requires a half pound of cheese? Then the professional salad shooter has got you covered. It will also shred carrots, slice celery, carrots, radishes, potatoes, or almost any vegetable you want to slice into nice, slightly curved pieces. It also keeps your hands away from the cutting blade which is a bonus when compared with a standard mandoline, but it won’t cut French fries for you since it doesn’t have that kind of blade.

So you want to know if I still use it? Absolutely. I use it almost exclusively for shredding cheese when I am shredding a boat load of cheese for a dish like pizzas, casseroles, enchiladas, tacos, etc. But if I’m only shredding a small amount of cheese, like to top a salad, then the amount of clean-up required is more cumbersome than the savings of speed when shredding. A simple cheese grater, knife or mandoline will take care of the vegetables without requiring a ton of clean-up.
So is it worth it? For my kitchen, yes. It saves time and hassle when shredding large quantities of cheese for those extra special dishes like homemade macaroni and cheese, pizza, lasagna, and the like.
