Make Your Guests Want More With These Cheap, Tangy and Perfectly Seasoned Deviled Eggs

Growing up, I loved it when my mom made deviled eggs. The combination of egg yolk, dry mustard, mayonnaise and sweet relish provided a perfectly balanced tart and sweet flavor for a tangy goodness that was out of this world. The ingredients and recipe are simple and this is one of the recipes that have transferred through the generations to continue to be a hit amongst the people I love.

Ingredients:

  • 12 Eggs $1.85
  • 1/3 Cup Mayonnaise $0.27
  • 4 Tbsp Sweet Relish $0.32
  • 1/2 tsp Dry Mustard $0.08
  • 1/4 tsp Salt $0.01
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper $0.02
Total:  $2.54

Preparation:

  1. Boil the eggs in boiling water for 15 minutes
  2. Transfer the eggs to an ice water bath.
  3. Crack the eggs by hitting the small end of each egg and peel away the shell.
  4. Wash the eggs to rinse off any residual egg shell.
  5. Slice the egg in half. Remove the yolk and place it in a bowl. Place the empty egg white on a plate
  6. Smash up the yolks. Add dry mustard, salt and pepper and mix thoroughly
  7. Add mayonnaise and sweet relish and mix till creamy. Make sure not to use too much relish or mayonnaise that would make the egg runny.
  8. Scoop out about a tablespoon of the yolk mixture and place it in the egg white. 
  9. Cover in plastic wrap and refrigerate the eggs till chilled.
