Can A Cheap Meat Thermometer Improve Your Cooking?

Naturally being the cheap, I mean cost effective, kitchen cook who also wants to make sure the food is done, I decided to invest in one of the cheapest meat thermometers on Amazon. It was so cheap in fact, that the specific version I purchased is no longer available, but it is still doing a bang up job in my kitchen. And don’t worry, I have a replacement thermometer that will work just as well for you.

The Video Review

Before I bought my meat thermometer, I always had trouble deciding when my bone in chicken thighs and drum sticks were cooked to the correct doneness. Now, I don’t worry about it cause I take the meat thermometer and stick it right next to the bone to see if the thermometer reads at least 165° F so that I know when my family bites into the chicken, they won’t be freaked out by seeing red.

Also, the thermometer is indispensable when cooking a whole turkey for Thanksgiving as it will tell me when the meat has gotten to the safe temperature of 165° F. Once it hits that magic temperature (as long as you are sticking the thermometer into the place the turkey is least likely to be done cooking) then you know you are good to go.

It has also helped me make sure that my tri-tips and other large cuts of meat have hit the correct doneness. Now I can determine with great accuracy whether the meat is rare, medium rare, medium, medium well or well done. It saves me a lot of headache

Lastly, when I am making a dough with yeast, I love the thermometer as I can accurately check the temperature of the water that I’m going to use with the yeast. It makes it a piece of cake to get the yeast water between 120° F and 130° F so that I know the yeast will activate. I also let the yeast sit in the liquid with sugar as well and make sure it foams up so that I know it’s ready to go.

So if you want to make sure your meat is the correct doneness or you want to know if your yeast is going to do well, A thermometer like this one is an essential gadget to have in your kitchen.

I know the one I’m reviewing isn’t on Amazon anymore, but this new one will serve the same purpose.
