Why Don’t We Try To Cook A Chuck Roast Just Like A Tri-tip Steak?

Let’s compare a Tri-tip with a Chuck Roast. I mean, if you can get away with cooking a chuck roast, the cheaper cut of meat, just like a Tri-tip, why not? You will get the great flavor for a cheaper price. So let’s try it. Let’s see if the chuck roast can be cooked like a tri-tip. I’ll give you a hint, the cheaper cut of meat is cheaper for a reason.

Ingredients:

  • 1 3lb Tri-tip roast ($3.79/lb on sale)
  • 1 Cup red wine
  • 1 Cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon Black Pepper
  • 1 Tablespoon Garlic Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Kosher salt

Preparation:

  1. Place the tri-tip in a bag.
  2. Add red wine and Worcestershire sauce. Seal the bag and place in the refrigerator to marinate for 24 hours making sure to turn it over so that each side is marinated for 12 hours
  3. Take out the tri-tip and let it come to room temperature – set it out for about 30 minutes.
  4. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit.
  5. Once the tri-tip has been out for 30 minutes, discard the marinade.
  6. Mix the salt, pepper and garlic powder and spread evenly over the tri-tip.
  7. Wrap the tri-tip in foil making sure to cover it entirely and place it on a baking sheet and into the oven for 30 minutes for a medium rare tri-tip. Use a pair of tongs to test the doneness to your liking.
  8. Prepare the BBQ if you are using coals. If gas, you can wait till you take the tri-tip out of the oven.
  9. Take the tri-tip out of the oven and unwrap it from the foil. Place it on the BBQ for about 3-4 minutes per side or until a nice sear appears on the outside.
  10. Let the tri-tip rest for about 5-10 minutes then Slice the tri-tip and place it on a platter
