Can A Wooden Scraper Effectively Clean Up Your Grill?

Can A Wooden Scraper Effectively Clean Up Your Grill?

The short answer is no. If you are a person who usually uses a metal scraper to scrape off your grill, then you run the risk of getting the metal bristles stuck to the grill and then attaching itself to your next meal where it can get lodged in a person’s throat and cause you to take a trip to the emergency room. So I tested a wooden grill scraper in hopes that it would clean off the grill and eliminate the possibility of having a metal bristle stick to the grill.

The Video Review

Unfortunately, after a few month of use, it became apparent that the scraper just isn’t as effective at cleaning off the food residue as a metal scraper. At first the scraper was working fine, taking off most of the food residue, but as time went by and more and more meals were being cleaned, it became clear that food buildup was happening.

It became increasingly clear as I continued to oil the grills to keep them from getting rusty, but the oil would just get soaked up by the residue and make the grills seem like I didn’t put any oil on them at all. You can see in the video when I compared the two scrapers, the one scraped with a metal bristle scraper is smoother to the touch because it does a better job.

Now I haven’t gone back to a metal bristle scraper still fearing the bristles get lodged in someone’s throat. Instead I am currently trying out a bristle free metal scraper that I’m not sure will truly be safe. Some of the wires have become dislodged so I’m cautious when using it and looking at the grill after every scrape to see if there’s any metal on the grill. But it certainly is getting the grills cleaner this way.
